FAQs

Creating a starter kit for polished plaster application will depend on the scale of your project and the specific techniques you plan to use. Here's a basic list of items you might need to get started:

Primer: Covers 9 square meters per litre to painted walls, can be thinned by 10% on fresh plastered walls.

Plaster:
In the colour of your choice.
1 kilo per square meter of wall area.

Wax: Use beeswax to protect and finish the polished plaster surface.

Trowel: Invest in a good-quality stainless steel trowel. A medium-sized trowel is versatile and suitable for most projects. All out trowels are suitable for Lucidato application. We only stock Pavan quality trowels.

Hawk: A small handheld hawk, a clean upside down towel or large spatula is useful for holding and carrying the plaster mixture as you apply it to the wall.

Cloths: Soft brushes and lint-free cloths are needed for applying the sealer and wax to the finished plaster.

Bucket & Sponge: Fill a sturdy bucket with clean water and scrub trowels and tools with a brush or sponge as you work.

Protective Gear: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and safety glasses, to protect yourself during the application process.
Lime products are harmful and damaging to the skin and eyes.

Additional Tips:

* Practice your application and trowel technique on sample boards before applying to the wall.

* Maintain a consistent temperature and humidity level in the room while applying and
drying the plaster.

* Work in good lighting to see imperfections and achieve a smooth finish.

With patience, attention to detail, and this guide as your companion, you can
successfully create a stunning Polished Plaster wall that will add timeless elegance to your space.

Regrettably, we do not provide finished samples. Instead, consider ordering a 1 kg pot to create your sample, showcasing the finish you have achieved.

Avoid using polished plaster in wet areas like showers or wet rooms. However, consider it for feature walls in high moisture spaces such as bathrooms or swimming pool walls.

All our Polished Plasters can be used outside, but they will encounter environmental pollutants and dirt, much like any other surface. The color fastness of the plaster may be impacted by the sun's UV rays. Some people find the weathering and discoloration of plasters attractive when used outdoors.

Polished Plasters must be applied to a finished plaster wall akin to painting. Experiment on a single plasterboard without filling joints or screw heads. Polished Plaster serves a decorative purpose, not for filling seams or holes.

With practice and the appropriate materials, you'll develop a high-quality finish; as with any skill, the more you practice, the better you'll get. Although there are DIY kits for those with some background, attaining a polished plaster finish typically demands expertise. Professional installers are skilled in application techniques, guaranteeing a smooth, flawless outcome. They grasp the subtleties of the material, substrate preparation, and finishing methods, making it wise to consider hiring a professional for more complex and larger projects.

Lucidato Polished plaster, also known as Venetian or Marble plaster, is a decorative wall finish that entails applying several layers of plaster. It is polished to create a sleek, lustrous surface. The composition and finishing process distinguish it from traditional plaster.

Polished plaster is known for its durability and longevity. When applied correctly, it can withstand everyday wear and tear. However, like any decorative finish, it may be susceptible to scratches and dents. Regular cleaning with a soft, damp cloth is usually sufficient for maintenance. Some may choose to apply a protective wax or sealer to enhance durability.

To achieve the best results, it is recommended to apply polished plaster on smooth surfaces. In cases where the existing wall has textures or defects, it is important to first level or smooth the surface before applying the plaster.

Lucidato comes in a wide range of colours. Our base plaster is mixed with pigments to achieve the desired hue. Some artisans even create unique effects by mixing different coloured plasters to create their own colour. This allows for a high degree of customisation to match specific design preferences and aesthetics.
